Elections due before half-term for our new Student Council.
Our school council is a vital student-led group that plays a crucial role in representing the interests and concerns of the children in our school. Each year group elects a school council representative through a democratic process, where fellow students vote for their preferred candidate. These elected representatives act as the voice of their peers, conveying their ideas, suggestions, and concerns to the school staff team and, ultimately, to the school's governing body. The school council works collaboratively to address various issues, improve the school environment, and ensure that students' perspectives are considered in decision-making processes, making the educational experience more inclusive and engaging for everyone involved.
The School council work with Miss Longvill and host regular meetings. They also report to our Chair of Governors and share their findings at Local Academy Board meetings.
Some projects they have worked on in the past include:
Our school council are elected towards the end of the Autumn term.
Each year, we provide the children with an opportunity to join our school Faith Team. Our Faith Team serve as our spiritual leaders within the school community. Collaborating closely with the Religious Education lead, Miss Brown, they play a pivotal role in nurturing and fostering our school's faith-based Christian ethos. As well as overseeing our 'Prayer and Reflection Space,' they lead Devotions (assemblies) and guide the school in prayer, helping to create a spiritually enriching environment that encourages reflection and personal growth in our students. Their dedication and leadership contribute significantly to the spiritual and moral development of our school, reinforcing our commitment to our Christian faith and values-based education.
At St John’s and St Peter’s, we are proud of our School Ambassadors – a group of children chosen by their teachers for the way they live out our school values each day. Ambassadors are recognised as excellent role models in both learning and behaviour, and they play an important part in shaping the positive culture of our school.
Their responsibilities include welcoming and showing around visitors, supporting others on the playground to make sure no one feels left out or lonely, and helping with whole-school projects such as our School of Sanctuary work. By serving in this role, Ambassadors develop their confidence and leadership skills, while making a real difference to our school community.
